The Cask of Amontillado

Montresor, Italian aristocrat, tells the story of the night in which he takes revenge of his friend, the also nobleman Fortunato who was drunk and disguised of buffoon. Montresor deceives Fortunato, who boasts of being a connoisseur of wines, saying him that he has obtained what believes to be a barrel of Amontillado out of season and he wants his expert opinion. He takes him to his palace, driving him through the catacombs of the cellars. Fortunato, totally drunk, doesn’t suspect of the dark intention of Montresor until he appears chained to the cold and humid wall. A chilling story full of irony and black humor, from which Montresor and Fortunato’s encounter scene was picked out.
